AI for roofing and construction companies: calls answered on site, quotes out the same day

The work is on the roof or in the ground. The admin happens in the van and at the kitchen table. AI takes the calls you cannot answer, drafts the quotes you would write tonight, and chases the ones you sent last week.

Part of AI for your industry.

Which AI workflows save the most time for a roofing or construction company?

Answering and qualifying calls, drafting quotes from site photos, following up every quote, scheduling crews and turning voice notes into site reports save the most.

Each of these happens many times a week, follows the same shape every time, and currently waits until someone is back at a desk. That is exactly the kind of work AI handles well. The judgement stays with you: what to charge, which job to take, how to fix the problem on site. The typing, chasing and answering do not need you.

The table lists the workflows we look at first for a roofing or construction business, what each replaces, and what it usually connects to. None of it requires new software to get started; if you already run a job management system, the workflows plug into it.

Tradesperson on site reviewing job information on a tablet
Workflow What it replaces What it connects to
AI receptionist Calls that ring out while the crew is on a roof or in a trench Your phone number, calendar, job management software, WhatsApp
AI-assisted quoting Evenings spent turning site photos and notes into a priced quote Price lists, past quotes, quoting or job management software
Quote follow-up Quotes sent and never chased Email, SMS, WhatsApp, CRM or job management software
Scheduling Phone calls back and forth to confirm crews, suppliers and customers Calendar, job management software, SMS
Site reporting Daily reports typed up from memory at the end of the day Voice notes, photos, WhatsApp, a shared job folder
Job profitability reporting Finding out after the job whether it made money Accounting software, timesheets, supplier invoices

Can AI answer the phone when we are on site?

Yes. An AI receptionist answers every call, asks what the job is, where and how urgent, logs the enquiry, and books or flags it.

The caller hears a natural voice, not a menu. It asks the questions you would ask: what needs doing, the address, whether there is water coming in right now, the best number to call back. It writes that down in your job system or a shared inbox and sends you a summary. If the caller wants a person, it says when you will ring back rather than pretending to be one.

The value is not the novelty. It is that the enquiry that came in at ten past eleven while you were on a ridge is still an enquiry at five o'clock, with the details written down, instead of a missed call the customer has already made to someone else.

We set the rules with you: which calls get booked straight into the diary, which get flagged as urgent, and which get a polite message that you will call back after six.

How does AI speed up quoting?

It turns site photos, voice notes and your price list into a first-draft quote in your format: you check and send instead of starting blank.

You walk the job as you always have. You take the photos and record a voice note: slate roof, forty square metres, two velux, replace the lead on the chimney. The workflow drafts the quote from that, using your rates and your past quotes for similar jobs, and puts it in front of you to adjust. Nothing goes to the customer until you approve it.

The second half is follow-up. Most quotes that are lost are lost to silence, not to price. Once a quote goes out, the workflow sends a short, friendly check-in on the schedule you set and tells you when the customer replies, so you are talking to warm enquiries rather than working through a list of cold ones.

The other half of the picture, being the company ChatGPT recommends when someone asks for a roofer in your area, is a different service: GEO for Construction and Trades.

What does it cost?

There is no single figure, because the price follows the workflows and systems involved. The review that scopes it is free and takes three minutes.

Why there is no single figure. An AI receptionist on one number is a different job from receptionist, quoting, follow-up and job profitability reporting across two crews and a job management system. We quote each engagement on what it connects and what it has to do, with the estimated hours saved beside the price.

What you get free first. The AI Readiness Review report for construction and trades names the two or three workflows with the most hours behind them for your business, and Ger talks it through with you personally within 24 hours. No card, no obligation.

Who it is for. Roofing, construction and trades businesses of roughly 5 to 50 staff where the owner or office manager is losing measurable hours to calls, quotes and reports. A one-person operation usually gets what it needs from the review report alone.

From my own business

I run Shamrock Electrical, an electrical wholesaler in Rathcoole, Dublin, and I sell to contractors every working day. The first AI workflows I built for my own business were invoice chasing and the weekly management report, because that was where my office hours were going. They run on the systems we already had.

I am not going to tell you a roofing client's story here, because I have not got one to tell yet. What I can tell you is the order of work: the admin with the clearest hours behind it first, proved on your own numbers before anything else is added.

Common questions

Will an AI receptionist put customers off?

A good one answers immediately, takes the details, and tells the caller when to expect a call back, which is better than voicemail. Callers who ask for a person are handed to one, and urgent jobs are flagged straight away.

Does this work for a small roofing company with three or four staff?

Yes, and often best there, because the owner is usually the one doing the quoting and answering the phone. The first workflow is chosen for the hours it gives back to that person.

What software do we need already?

A phone number, a calendar and somewhere quotes are kept is enough to start. If you already use job management software such as Tradify, ServiceM8 or Buildertrend, the workflows connect to it rather than replace it.

Is this the same as getting found on ChatGPT?

No. This page is about AI doing work inside your business: calls, quotes, scheduling and reports. Being recommended when someone asks ChatGPT for a roofer is a separate service, GEO for Construction and Trades.
