AI for your industry

AI for your industry: the workflows that save hours every week

This hub is for owner-managers who want to know what AI actually does in a business like theirs, not in a tech company. Pick your sector and you get the admin it removes, the first workflow we usually build, and honest answers on data and cost.

Who this is for

Clever Merchants is an AI consultancy in Dublin working with owner-managed businesses of roughly 5 to 50 staff across Ireland, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The businesses we work with are operational: they quote, schedule, invoice, chase and report. Every hour spent on that admin is an hour not spent on paying work.

Each sector page below follows the same shape. Which workflows save the most time, what the data risks really are, how to start without disrupting the business, and how pricing works. Nothing on these pages is a generic AI explainer. It is the list we would work through with you on a call.

If you would rather skip the reading, the free AI Readiness Review asks six questions and returns an industry-specific report in about three minutes. For the wider picture on how we work, see AI consulting for small business.

Which industries get the most from AI first?

Businesses with high enquiry volume, repetitive quoting or reporting, and staff often away from a desk see the fastest return: trades, solar, accounting and legal.

The pattern is simple. AI saves the most time where the same task happens many times a week, follows a recognisable shape, and currently waits for a person to get back to the office. A roofer cannot answer the phone on a ladder. An accountant cannot file until the client sends the bank statements. A solicitor's day fills with updates that all say roughly the same thing.

It saves the least where every task is genuinely different and the judgement is the job. That is why we put the workflows in a specific order for each sector rather than selling a general AI package. The first workflow is always the one with the clearest hours behind it.

For sectors not listed yet, the same logic applies. The AI readiness checklist lets you score your own business against it in five minutes.

From my own business

I run Shamrock Electrical, an electrical wholesaler in Rathcoole, Dublin, alongside Clever Merchants. The first two AI workflows I put into my own business were invoice chasing and the weekly management report, because that was where my office time was going. Neither needed new software; both sit on top of the systems we already had.

That is the order of work on every sector page here: the admin that is measurably eating hours first, the clever stuff later. Read how the same business was picked up by AI search in the Shamrock Electrical case study.

Common questions

Which industries does Clever Merchants work with?

We work with owner-managed operational businesses of roughly 5 to 50 staff: construction and trades, solar, accounting, legal, recruitment, estate agents, ecommerce, manufacturing and agencies. The four sector pages here are the first of ten planned.

What if my industry is not listed yet?

The free AI Readiness Review already produces an industry-specific report for construction and trades, solar, professional services, ecommerce, manufacturing and agencies. Take it and the report will name the workflows for your kind of business.

Do these AI workflows replace staff?

No, they remove the repetitive admin that stops good staff doing the work they were hired for. The usual result is the same team handling more jobs, clients or matters without adding a person.
